Helical Blue was formed in 2009 by James Muxworthy who has a life-long passion for music and sound recording. James has gained a wide knowledge of sound recording, music composition, acoustics and synthesiser technology.

James has a Diploma in Media Composition and had training in music technology, voice-over, dialogue recording and editing and film-making. He has a Level 7 Diploma in Acoustic and Noise Control obtained from the Institute of Acoustics, having an extensive knowledge of location sound recording and audio editing. Having a particular interest in Wildlife film-making James has undertaken training in wildlife sound recording, camera work and video editing. The experience gained from this is invaluable when composing music and sound design to picture.

Before running Helical Blue full-time, James worked in a senior scientific role in a commercial environment. He also has a PhD in Chemistry, extensive project management experience and qualifications in Health and Safety. Additionally he has many years experience designing and delivering safety training programmes. This wide range of 'real world' skills and experience is invaluable when discussing with clients their music, sound, podcast and other multimedia needs. Consequently James is very knowledgeable and proficient when doing work recording business meetings/seminars, podcasts and supporting training with audio.
